The "Red Submariner" was primarily produced around the 1970s. Its distinctive red "Submariner" text sets it apart from the standard batch-produced reference 1680 models. As the saying goes, rarity dictates value, and the collectible worth of the Red Sub has skyrocketed due to its scarce production.
Among these Red Subs, an even rarer variant exists where the meter measurement precedes the feet designation on the dial, e.g., "200m=660ft". Collectors affectionately refer to these as "MF" (Meter First) models.
Both the "Red Submariner" and the earlier "Red Text" models can be collectively called Red Subs. Aesthetically, it's clear that the "Red Text" version is the earlier production, and thus commands a higher value. If you are ever fortunate enough to encounter an MF Red Sub, do not hesitate—add it to your collection immediately.
